After a few days on the ICW in North Carolina we pulled into a little town called Southport to stretch our legs, fuel up and anchor for the night.
The weather looked good for us to sail offshore to Charleston, South Carolina the next day so we made an early dinner and went to bed. Waking up, still laying in the v-berth, we checked the NOAA forecast and geared up for the 10 kt winds and 2-3ft seas they were predicting.
Up came the anchor and off we wen, out of the inlet until the the sight of land disappeared.
We listened to music and talked about the warm weather coming our way to pass the time.
For dinner I served chili and rice in effort to help keep us warm.
As the evening went on, Lola barked at us wondering why we weren’t dropping anchor and launching the dinghy for her to get to shore like usual. Sorry Lou, not today! We continued sailing on after sunset.
As much as we love a following sea our autopilot does not so we ended up hand steering the 130 nautical miles and 24 hours to Charleston. As we entered the inlet dolphin swam up to greet us. We attached dock lines and put out fenders in the pink morning light feeling accomplished after a successful passage and ready for a long nap.
The cold made the night feel long but made the return of the sun in the morning feel that much warmer.
